KANNUR: The Panur police registered a case against eight RSS workers in connection with the attack at Chendayad here on December 5 night when two CPI (M) workers received stab injuries.

K Noushad (45) and P Noufal were injured in the attack by alleged RSS workers around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. While Noushad was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, Noufal was admitted to the Thalassery Cooperative Hospital.

Noushad is a Puthur CPI (M) local committee member. The CPI (M) alleged that the two were attacked near Kunnummal Canal when they were on their way home. In view of the tension, police personnel were posted in the area.

On his Facebook page, CPI (M) district secretary P. Jayarajan said the RSS was not giving up weapons in the district. The attack was an attempt to murder Noushad, he said while condemning the attack.

Tension also prevailed at Naduvil which recently witnessed clashes between CPI (M) and Indian Union Muslim League workers. In the clashes between the rival parties a few days ago, CPI (M) district secretariat member K M Joseph was among those who were reportedly injured in a bomb attack.

CPI (M) and IUML workers had been injured in incidents of clashes on Tuesday also. The CPI (M) district secretariat in a statement called for restoring peace at Naduvil. It alleged that the IUML was trying to create trouble in the area since IUML local leader Moosankutty and his associates had joined the CPI (M).

The IUML is also trying to portray the CPI (M) as anti-Muslim, it added. IUML workers in the area were misusing places of worship for protecting their vested interests, it alleged.
