THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The city police have apprehended two more activists of the RSS in connection with the attack on a CPI (M) worker near Sreekaryam two weeks ago.

The police identified the arrested as Swathish, alias Kichu, 24, of Pongummoodu and Akhil, alias Abbas Kannan, 23, of Powdikonam. With this, six persons who allegedly had direct involvement in the case have been nabbed by the police team led by Medical College Inspector C. Binukumar. Four others, Sumesh, Jayashankar, Vignesh and Vishnu, were arrested earlier. All of the accused were members of the RSS, the police said.

Swathish and Akhil were apprehended from Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station on Wednesday night while they were allegedly trying to flee to Tamil Nadu. They have been remanded in judicial custody.

The police are yet to nab one more person suspected to be involved in the alleged attempt to murder CPI (M) Vanchiyoor area committee member L S Saju, 49, at Edavacode, near Sreekaryam, on December 27. Saju was hacked near his house by a group of assailants who had come on motorcycles.

Saju was admitted at the Government Medical College Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is reportedly stable.

The police said the attack was plotted to avenge the murder of RSS worker Rajesh a few months ago. The successful conduct of the Vanchiyoor area committee conference of the CPI (M) had also angered the gang.
