THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Inaugurating the Loka Kerala Sabha at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday morning, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that Malayalees should turn into an international society.

He added that the Loka Kerala Sabha is the birth of an international Kerala society.

“The expertise of Malayalees the world over should be utilised for the development of Kerala. The Loka Kerala Sabha can creatively intervene in the developmental activities of Kerala, and hence this Sabha should prove to be an example to the entire country. The Centre and the state government must work in tangent for the rehabilitation of the NRIs. The investments by the NRIs are not being properly utilised. This must change and by making the best use of the NRI investments, the economy of Kerala can be bettered,” he said.

Pinarayi pointed out that the investments by the NRIs is anytime better than foreign debts with huge interests.

“The Centre must be able to make use of these possibilities. There must be provisions to rehabilitate NRIs and the Centre and the state government must work together towards this. All hurdles for NRIs to make investments must be removed. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) should be utilised for the NRIs to make investments. The NRI investments should be coordinated. There needs to be verified and trustworthy recruitment agencies to aide people to go to foreign countries. The exploitation of female NRIs must be stopped. Also, we need to think of other possibilities if the lure of the Gulf countries wane,” he said.

Pinarayi added: “AKG had once told that democracy must be for societal renovation. He has always been a guiding light of parliamentary democracy. Possibilities from across the world must be explored. The Loka Kerala Sabha has been formed with a vision to make it intervene in the comprehensive development of Kerala.”

He also said that the Loka Kerala Sabha can also solve problems of the Keralities who live outside the state.
