KOCHI: The accused in the case of a mother and her paramour killing her four-year old daughter in Chottanikara attempted suicide. The paramour and the first accused in the case Ranjith is the one who attempted suicide.

Earlier the court had judged the mother Rani and her two paramours Ranjith and Basil to be guilty of the murder of the four-year old girl. The court had said that the onus of sentence would be announced on Friday but owing to the suicide attempt by Ranjith it has been postponed to January 15.

The incident relating to the case happened on October 29, 2013. It was Ranjith who murdered the kid fearing that she would prove to be a problem for their illicit affair. Also, Ranjith and Basil had sexually abused the kid before killing her.

Rani approached the Chottanikara police the next day and had lodged a complaint that her daughter went missing. The murder was discovered when the police questioned her in detail after finding that there was discrepancy in her statements.
