KOZHIKODE: All-India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulema general secretary Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar has come to the fore saying that he’s ready for discussions with the E K faction, thereby paving way for the unification of Sunni groups.

At the Samastha Mushavara meeting that was held on Saturday in Kozhikode, a decision was also made to appoint a special committee for the discussion.

Kanthapuram also said that this move comes at a time when unity against the Mujahid has become imminent.

“A Sunni unification is essential to stop the onslaught of terrorists. There would be no gain by staying isolated. We can fight the adversaries only by staying together,” he said.

The EK faction had earlier said that they were ready for unification and had also appointed a special team for the same. It is at this juncture that the Sunni faction has also expressed a favourable stance.

Earlier, Kanthapuram had hinted about the necessity of unification during the concluding event of the 40th anniversary of the Markaz in Kozhikode. This was the first time the Mushavara was convened after that meeting. Sunni unification was the main topic of discussion at the Mushavara.
