CHENGANOOR: CPM leader and Chenganoor MLA K K Ramachandran Nair passed away on Sunday morning. He was 65. Nair, who was undergoing treatment for liver related problems at Apollo Hospital in Chennai for the past one month, died early morning at 4 am. His body which will be brought to the capital city today will be taken to Century Hospital in Chenganoor. Cremation will take place later.

Nair was born to Karunakaran Nair and Bharathi Amma at Ala in Chenganoor on December 1st in 1952. He entered politics via SFI. He graduated in Master of Economics from NSS College, Pandalam. He took his law degree from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. He was SFI’s Alappuzha district committee member. When studying in Law College, he worked as a member of district committee and was the college union chairman. Nair, a lawyer by profession had worked as CPM Chenganoor taluk union secretary and area secretary. He was the president of bar council.

He first contested to the assembly from Chenganoor against Shobana George in 2001. But was defeated. He won the assembly election in 2016 defeating former MLA P C Vishnunath by a margin of 7983 votes.
