KOZHIKODE: The state leadership of the IUML appears to be on the path of change as women and Dalit leaders have been accommodated in the state secretariat of the party. At the organisational elections held, Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal has been re-elected State president and K P A Majeed state general secretary.

Qamarunnisa Anvar, K P Mariyumma and Noorbina Rasheed are the new women members in the state secretariat. U C Raman and A P Unnikrishnan, leaders of the Dalit League, an affiliate organisation of the Scheduled Castes, too have been included in the secretariat, which now has seven new faces. All the MLAs have been included in the secretariat and the earlier rules which barred MLAs from becoming party functionaries, have been changed for the purpose.

Cherkkalam Abdulla, former Minister, has replaced P K K Bava as the treasurer. Bava and M C Mayin Haji are the new vice presidents, whose number has gone up from nine to 12. National council leaders such as P K Kunhalikkutty, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, and P.V. Abdul Wahab, MPs, and Siraj Ibrahim too have been accommodated in the State secretariat. Party leaders said the number of functionaries were increased considering the rise in membership.
