THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The state police recorded the statement of solar investment fraud case suspect Saritha S Nair. Saritha had told the Sivarajan commission that an array of the UDF leaders had sexually exploited her by falsely promising to help her muster investors for industrial-scale solar energy harvesting farms that she and her business associates had planned in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The commission had recorded her statement and later recommended that the government constitute a special team to investigate the politicians on suspicion of rape. It had also concluded that seeking or receiving sexual favours for official patronage amounted to corruption and the alleged transgressions against Saritha amounted to a violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Consequently, the government constituted a special team under Director General of Police, North Zone, to investigate Saritha’s accusations. However, the probe had been lagging till now. Saritha was at the police facility for six hours on Monday. Law enforcers said they also had to factor in her several flip-flops on the matter.

The investigators would seek the actual copy of the letter in which Saritha had made the first set of allegations when she was arrested in 2015 in connection with the scam. They would have to probe her associations with at least three assistants in former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s office.
