THRIPPUNITHURA: The mystery surrounding the death of Udayamperoor native Damodaran’s wife Shakuntala (50), whose dead body was found cemented in concrete inside a plastic drum, has been solved.

The police have found out that Shakuntala was killed by Eroor native Sajith. Sajith had committed suicide by consuming potassium cyanide the next day after Shakuntala’s body was found.

Shakuntala’s body was found cemented in concrete inside a plastic drum in a vacant plot near the Kumbalam Lake on Januray 7, 2017.

The legs of the dead body were tied to the back and hands folded and concrete was filled around the body after being put in the plastic container. The dead body was more than a year old, and a probe led to the conclusion that it was that of K S Shakuntala. The official confirmation was made after receiving the DNA results of her daughter Aswathy.

It was found out that Sajith had an affair with Aswathy and Shakuntala was against this relationship. The police says that this led to the murder of Shakuntala by Sajith. Sajith sought his friends’ help in disposing off Shakuntala’s body cemented in a plastic drum after her murder. This was revealed in the investigation centred on Sajith’s friends.

Shakuntala was the foster daughter of Udayamperoor native Sarasa, who had passed away years ago. Shakuntala and Damodaran’s was love marriage but the relationship didn’t last for long, following which she had been living in rented houses after rented houses with his son and daughter.

Screw in leg became crucial evidence

There were only the skeleton and the skull that remained when the body was discovered on January 7. It was the investigation regarding the batch number of the screw that was found attached to the leg of the skeleton that led to Shakuntala.

Shakuntala had sustained an injury on her leg in a scooter accident that happened two years ago. The screw was attached to her leg at the Thrippunithura Vijayakumara Menon Hospital during her treatment there.
