KANNUR: The police have arrested and removed the Vayal Kili activists who were protesting at Keezhattoor against government acquiring land for the construction of bypass.

This was followed by CPM members arriving at the spot and burning down the protest shed. The incident happened by around 1.45 pm on Wednesday.

Earlier the day, officials had reached the spot on Wednesday morning with the support of the police to construct the road. This was followed by the protesters getting into the field with strong resistance. They raised the slogans saying that its farmer’s field and those who have arrived to build a road here must back off. The protesters also included women and children.

The Vayalkili had decided to oppose the survey proceedings at all cost. The Keezhattoor protest took a new turn with the CPM locking horns with the Vayalkili activists.

Soon the police arrived and arrested and removed the protesters from the spot.
