THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the work for the second phase of the Kochi Metro starting from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium till Infopark, via Kakkanad will begin only after the nod from the Centre.

Administrative sanction worth Rs. 2577.25 crores, and a detailed project report for the second phase was submitted for the final approval from the Centre in May 2017. According to the new metro policy of the Centre, the modified project report (DPR) is in consideration of the government. This has to be sent to the Centre and get a final nod from them.

The state government has sanctioned Rs. 189 crores for the preliminary works of the second phase of the Kochi Metro. Also administrative sanction for acquiring land was also given. The district administration is taking steps to do a study of the influence of the society as part of this.

The CM also informed, as a response to the submission by V P Sajeendran, that Rs. 20 crores has been sanctioned for acquiring land.
