THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has sought for a CBI probe in the custody death of a youth named Sreejith in Varapuzha.

Commission acting chairman P Mohandas has ordered the home secretary to provide a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the relatives of Sreejith and a government job to his wife.

Sreejith, who was taken into custody by the Varapuzha police in connection with the case of attack against a middle-aged man named Vasudevan, died at a private hospital in Ernakulam on April 9.

It was found out that Sreejith died as a result of a damaged small intestine because of the brutal beating by the police. Also, the doctors who treated Sreejith have given a statement to the investigation team that he had received the fatal injuries three days prior to his death.

Also, the members of the Rural Tiger Force have given a statement to the investigation team that Sreejith had no injuries or was tired when they handed him over to the police.

There were demands from different corners that the case in which the Kerala police is accused must be probed by a third agency. Also, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had also sought for a CBI probe in the case the other day.
