KOCHI: The medical team that attended to Sreejith at the hospital, who died in police custody in Varapuzha, has revealed that he had received brutal injuries while in police custody.

They have told the investigation team that the top portion of Sreejith’s small intestine had ruptured because of the continuous and repeated blows to the same portion of his abdomen. They have said that 90 per cent of his small intestine had sustained injuries. The team of doctors added that this injury led to severe dip in his blood pressure and eventual death.

The report submitted by the doctors is being examined by the investigating team.

Sreejith was brought to a private hospital in a very bad condition on the morning of April 8. His BP was in the range of 80-60, which is considered ‘low BP’. His heart beat rate kept increasing and all his physical organs were almost inactive. There were injury marks on his abdomen, and his intestine had swollen with fluid because of the repeated blows. This fluid spreading to other parts also led to his death.

The team of doctors have told the investigating team that this can happen only if a person is made to stand straight and repeatedly inflict blows to his abdomen.
