MALAPPURAM: A case has been charged under POCSO Act against Changaramkulam sub inspector K G Baby for the serious lapses noticed in the sexual abuse in the theatre at Edapal. The case has been registered under the direction of DGP Lokanatha Behera. Baby was suspended from service earlier.

Action is likely to be taken against more police officers. Police inaction evoked widespread criticism for not conducting a probe on the complaint lodged by Childline.

The abuse the minor (10) faced belongs to the section of ‘very serious’ in the POCSO Act. Sexually abusing children under 12 years is punishable by 4, 5 provisions of the POCSO Act. This is a sufficient crime to imprison a convict for 10 years and also impose a huge amount as fine.
