THALASSERY: The probe into the murder of RSS worker Shamej in New Mahe is in the last phase. Police have reportedly got specific information about persons with direct involvement in the murder. The next aim is to trace the hideouts of the killers. And, the arrest may happen in the coming days.
It has been found that two persons taken into custody on Tuesday have no role in the murder. A person among them is seen in the CCTV at another place when the murder happened. Though they had no direct involvement in the murder they were aware of the murder plan, according to the police.
Police are also contemplating on ways to make them accused in the case. One person was arrested from Bengaluru after they got the information that the killers had fled to Karnataka.
Soon after the murder, the mobile phones of several CPM leaders in the locality were switched off. The investigation came to the conclusion that they did so to help the accused flee the scene and divert the investigation.
But the BJP circles alleged that that the police had identified the culprits but avoided arrest under the influence of Mahe MLA and other leaders.
Meanwhile, the BJP leaders clarified that passengers inside the car that came that way witnessed the killing; it was they who rushed to Kallayi market and informed Shamej’s friends.
