KALPETTA:  Two children drowned in a farm pond at Kudukki near Cheeral on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border on Sunday.

The police identified the dead as Mohammed Shahil ,8, son of Firoz of Cholakkal at Bidarkkad in Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu State and his cousin Sana Fathima,7, daughter of Shihab of Kalarikkal at Kudukki.

Mohammed Shahil and Sana Fathima reached their ancestral home at Kudukki to participate in an Iftar meet along with their parents on Saturday.

The children had gone missing on Sunday morning and later the bodies were found in the pond near the ancestral home in a search led by the villagers around 1.30 p.m. on the day, the police said.

A case has been registered at Sulthan Bathery police station. Investigation is on, the police said.
