NEW DELHI: The Railway ministry has abandoned Palakkad Railway coach factory project. The message was conveyed to M B Rajesh MP in writing by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and MoS Rajen Gohain.

The Railway’s stand is that there is facility for Railways to build coaches for the current and future purposes. And, hence there is no need for another coach factory in Palakkad.

The State government had acquired 439 acre land for the project earlier. In between the Railways reportedly made an attempt to shift the coach factory to Haryana after their government offered 161 acre land for the coach factory.

M B Rajesh asked what was fair about shifting the project to Haryana after laying the foundation stone for the project six years ago. “What do the BJP workers have to say about this after they had boasted about the Centre allotting Rs 45 core during election campaigns?” he quipped.
