NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha vice-chairperson P J Kurien has again come out to criticise AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy over the Rajya Sabha seat.

“For Oommen Chandy, Group is more important than the Congress party. He has the habit of side-lining people who oppose him. As Congress leader V M Sudheeran said, I also don’t have Group and that is why I was also side-lined,” he was speaking to media persons in New Delhi.

Kurien alleged that Oomen Chandy tried to side-line him when he was part of the A Group but later when he exit the Group, an attempt was made to wipe him out from politics itself.

“I could reveal more evidence on this if necessary. In 2012, when I was considered for Rajya Sabha vice-chariman’s post, Oommen Chandy tried to block that citing Muslim representation from Malabar. But after that he has never talked about it; if he was genuine, he could have given the current Rajya Sabha seat to a Malabar Muslim representative,” he said.

Kurien alleged that Chandy’s present move is aimed at P C Chacko. He campaigned that I was thirsting for top posts. I silently listened to that.

The senior Congress leader said he acted without any bias when he was the Rajya Sabha vice-chairman but certain people made allegations that he took decisions in favour of BJP. “If this allegation can be proved, I shall quit politics,” he added.
