PATHANANMTHITTA: The People’s Action Council at Vechoochira has demanded a CBI probe into the missing case of college girl Jesna Maria James from her house at Mukkoottuthara from March 22 as the police remained clueless even after 100 days of the incident.

Addressing a press conference, action council leaders K S Das, Nisha Alex, Shaji and Vakkachan Powathil alleged that the investigation by the local police was a gross failure.

They alleged that the Inspector General of Police Manoj Abraham, who is in charge of the investigation, had not yet visited Vechoochira in connection with the investigation.

They alleged that the family of Jesna was not cooperating with the action council from the very beginning of the ongoing stir, despite the latter’s call to Jesna’s father, James, to support the stir.

Das said James should clarify as to what prompted him to visit the grama panchayat office to ask the local body members to come out of the action council.

Panchayat members Vakkachan Powathil and Nisha Alex are also members of the action council. They alleged that certain people had even threatened them for failing to come out of the action council.

The action council leaders said that they were not denigrating Jesna’a family, but, people’s apprehensions should be cleared. Though Jesna was reportedly missing from 9.30 a.m. on March 22, the family had filed a complaint to the police only at 8 a.m. on March 23, they said. The action council leaders alleged that the police had failed to clear the apprehensions of the people in connection with the missing case.

As per the complaint, Jesna went to her aunt’s house at Punchavayal near Mundakkayam from her home at Mukkoottuthara on March 22 forenoon. But, Jesna neither reached the destination nor returned home till date.

Meanwhile, District Police Chief T Narayanan said the investigation was on and the police had collected more CCTV footages for verification.
