THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fisherman died on Wednesday after the boat in which he was going for trawling capsized following strong wind and waves at Kadinamkulam in Puthukkurichi.

The mishap occurred at 6 in the morning. The dead has been identified as Puthukkuruchi Theruvil Thaivilakam native Cyrus Adima (55).

He was on his routine journey to catch fish when the accident happened.

Four others were also in the boat, attached with motor engine. The violent waves struck the boat and it capsized after the motor shut off.

Sensing danger, Cyrus along with others jumped into the sea. During this attempt, his head hit the edge of the boat and sustained serious injury.

Though he was rushed to Medical College hospital, his life could not be saved.

He is survived by wife Mary Suman and three children.
