KANNUR: A dream house built with the earnings of working in a smithy was destroyed in the heavy rains and landslide. The houses of Mohanan and his younger brother Raveendran, residents of Karikkotta in Kannur were destroyed in heavy rain.

Mohanan had completed the construction of his two-storey house on the roadside of Edappuzha one and half years ago. Raveendran’s house was in the same compound. A small landslide was noted last day. Both  families moved away from there as heavy rain continued. They reached back yesterday morning and took whatever things they could and came out. Water had entered Mohanan’s house then.

They could only witness the trees being uprooted and house coming down. Though local people and the Territorial Army reached there for help, both houses were completely razed at noon. The workshop in which Raveendran had worked was also destroyed. Raveendran’s son was to get married next month. Both houses stood in 26 cents of land.
