MIRZAPUR (UP): Five people were killed and one seriously injured when they were hit by a speeding SUV in Jigna village here while they were loading flowers in a vehicle this morning, police said.

Six people were loading flowers into a stationary Tata Magic vehicle to be taken to Allahabad when a speeding Scorpio hit them from behind, killing three of them on the spot, SP Kalanidhi Naithani said.

Three others were rushed to Mandalia hospital at the district headquarter where two of them succumbed to injuries, the SP said, adding two people in the Scorpio were taken into custody and the SUV has been seized.

The deceased have been identified as Gyan Chand (45), Dharmaraj (42),Dharmendra (30),Umashankar (30) and Gaurav, 18, police added.
