THIRUVANANTHAPURAN: Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan has said, in the wake of the Supreme Court order directing closing down of bars along National and State highways, further steps will be taken in consultation with legal experts.
“The review petition submitted in the Supreme Court was withdrawn after it was wrongly interpreted and became a controversy. The government’s policy is not liquor ban but abstinence from liquor. Nothing more can be said about this now,” he told media persons on Wednesday.
“The government has already announced its liquor policy. Substances that are more harmful than liquor are more easily available in market. The government has taken into consideration all these facts. Vimukthi scheme against drugs is part of this. There are some issues regarding shifting of Bevco outlets along highways, which have been a fall-out of people’s misgivings. All decision will be taken after taking the people and protestors into confidence . At the same time, the government will have to implement the court order. The government will soon declare its liquor policy for the next financial year," he said.
