KANNUR: Within 15 hours of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan calling an all-party peace meeting here and agreeing to end political violence between the CPI (M) and BJP, in the presence of state and district leaders, the house of a BJP worker came under bomb attack at wee hours at Ponnyam, near Kathirur in the district. The all-party peace meeting convened had agreed that Kannur would be turned into a "No political violence district" and all parties would cooperate for it. On February 13 also, the chief minister had convened a bilateral meeting with the CPI (M) and BJP/RSS State leaders at Thiruvananthapuram to maintain peace. According to police, the house of BJP worker P Nalinakshan came under bomb attack by an unidentified gang at Parakunnil near Ponnyam.

Window panes were damaged, while cracks appeared on walls, following the impact of explosion. At the incident time, Nalinakshan was not at home. No causality was reported. BJP alleged that CPI (M) is behind the attack. Former BJP State president P K Krishnadas and District President P Sathyaprakash visited the house of Nalinakshan. Police registered a case in this regard and investigation is on.

In another incident, two CPI (M) workers Muhammed Irshad and Sourav were manhandled by alleged RSS workers when they were on way to their house at a bike, after the Adutta madapura temple festival at Ponnyam kattil. The temple festival will conclude in the evening and a large number of police were deployed at Kathiru and nearby areas, now the situation is under control, police said.

On February 13, CPI (M) worker K Santhosh (36) of Moonam Mile suffered injuries on right leg in an alleged crude bomb attack by BJP gang at Kundumchira near Kathirur-Thalassery, following a dispute between the CPI (M) and BJP, as part of a temple festival at Kattil Adoor Madapura.One of the agreements that came up at the all-party peace meeting, was that there would be no more attacks on the sacred worship places, houses, shops or vehicles of any party worker. The meeting also demanded that police take more caution, while avoiding any tension or violence in the temple premises.
