THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Secretariat employees attached to Opposition unions today boycotted work and came out to strike in protest against the formation of Kerala Administrative Service. Pro-government organisations also extended a silent support to the strike and didn’t go to the office to express their solidarity to the strikers.

Till noon the attendance was just above 20 per cent. The protestors reached the office Thursday morning, marked the attendance and walked out to hold the strike and demonstration.

Meanwhile, the government had clarified that strict action would be taken against those who boycotted work after marking the attendance. They would not be paid the day’s salary.  But all these warnings fell on deaf ears and employees went out to strike against KAS.

The talks held between the chief secretary and secretariat staff on Wednesday had failed, following which the former decided to go ahead with the strike. Today, it was the 51th day of the strike against KAS formation.
