KOCHI: Two persons were killed after a car rammed into a parked lorry near Angamaly in the wee hours of Saturday. The dead were identified as Sunil Kumar, 46, who hailed from Uzhavoor and Manoj Kumar, 49, a Muvattupuzha native. The car was heading towards Kannur from Uzhavoor when the accident happened near Nayarangadi around 1.50 am.

The truck was laden with wooden logs and was parked by the road to check the air pressure of its tyres. The car rammed the wooden log which was protruding from the truck, crushing the passengers. “The car came at high speed and the driver saw the lorry only at the last minute. Though he tried to swerve, one side of the car rammed the wooden pieces on the lorry,” the police said.

The driver of the car had a narrow escape. The lorry did not have warning lights fitted at the back as is mandatory. Separate cases were registered against the lorry and the car driver for rash and negligent driving.
