KANNUR: Health Minister K K Shailaja will inaugurate the district level "Vimukthi Mission", a government project to create awareness against alcohol and drugs through mass campaign on March 18 at town square. The first phase of district Vimukthi mission will be completed by April 30, by visiting all the houses and pasting a sticker as "Alcohol and drug free house". District Collector, District Police Chief will visit the houses for campaign along with the volunteers. The full-fledged work would begin from April 1 and the excise department will strengthen the enforcement wing and anti-narcotic squad would conducts raids.
Talking to media persons, District Collector Mir Muhammed Ali said Minister for ports, Ramachandran Kadannappally will release the "sticker" for sticking in all houses of the district citing free alcohol and drugs house in the same function. Corporation Mayor E P Latha will delivers the oath to about 3000 people, would be thronged in the function. A proclamation rally will be organized from Collectorate and a "mass run" will organise on March 17 from Police ground to old bus stand. In the mass run, around 500 people from Excise officials, Health and Education department officials , District Collector, District Police Chief, people representatives, literacy mission and library councils staffs Kudumbhasree mission, literacy mission workers will participate.
District Panchayat President K V Sumesh said vimukthi mission committee will be set up in all panchayath levels in the district by April 5 under the Chairman ship of Panchayat Presidents, while ward level committees under the ward members will be set up by April 10. A ward level convention will be organized as a people programme on April 30.To monitor the project, mission coordinator, informers including from Students would be appointed for this project to help the Excise department, said District Excise Deputy Commissioner V V Surendran.
