THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vigilance has acquitted former chief minister Oommen Chandy and former finance minister K M Mani over the alleged irregularities in the Karunya Benevolent Fund scheme.
Additional chief secretary (finance) K M Abraham, former lottery director Himanshu Kumar have also been exempted in the case. Meantime, the vigilance’ report mentioned that middlemen had made some serious anomalies by diverting the fund of Rs 5000/beneficiary allotted through the single-term treatment aid as part of the scheme. The vigilance produced the quick verification report in the court.
The government had obtained Rs 1969 crore as total income generated through Karunya lottery. Suresh Kumar, a native of Malappuram moved the court alleging anomalies in the healthcare scheme.
The plea alleged that the total income generated through Karunya lottery has not been given as treatment aid. Moreover, the financial aid was given to the undeserving people and there was a lack of transparency in selecting the beneficiaries.
