THRISSUR: Nehru College of Institution chairman P Krihsna Das was arrested by Thrissur Rural SP on Monday for allegedly beating up a student, who had complained against the college.

The arrest was recorded after he was taken into custody and grilled at Erumapetty police station.

According to the case, Krishna Das assaulted Nehru Academy of Law College second year student Shakeer Shaukkat for eight hours after locking him up inside the ‘boxing room’ of Pambady college . The incident happened on January 3, two days ahead of the death of another student Jishnu Pranoy.

As per the complaint, Krishna Das threatened Shakeer to get him to sign on certain documents. He threatened to kill Shakeer if he didn’t sign the papers. He slapped on the student’s face, used his knee to kick the latter’s stomach. When Shakeer fell onto the floor, he kicked the head using shoes.

Shakeer had earlier told media that he signed the papers as he feared for his life.

Last October, Shakeer had sent complaints to six places including Sutharya Keralam and Income Tax department against the practice of the college management drawing fines for even silly things without issuing receipts and other harassments in the college. The college’s action was to take revenge for this.
