KOZHIKODE: A 65-year-old retired army man has been was booked on the charges of raping a differently abled woman at Kunnummal grama panchayat here. Koyyorath Kunhiraman, the accused in the case, is reportedly missing after he was charged under Section 375 (Punishment for Rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

Kuttiyadi Circle Inspector T. Sajeevan said here on Monday that the medical examination conducted on the woman has confirmed the sexual assault.

“We have recorded her statement and the detailed medical report will be available by Tuesday,” he added.

The case was registered on the basis of a petition filed by the survivor’s mother. The petitioner said the sexual assault took place two weeks ago when the other family members were away from home.

Various political parties and people’s representatives from the area have called for stern action against the accused as the victim was a differently abled woman. Police officers said a search was on to nab him at the earliest.
