THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The University of Kerala Syndicate has decided to conduct an inquiry into the alleged violation that P Lekshmi Nair, former principal of the Kerala Law Academy Law College, had pursued multiple courses simultaneously. It has been alleged that Dr Nair had pursued an LLB course and a postgraduate programme at a time in violation of the university statute.

The Syndicate, which met on Saturday, decided to entrust the Standing Committee on Examinations and Students Discipline to examine all orders issued since her initial posting.

The meeting also witnessed allegations of inappropriate conduct raised against Vice Chancellor P.K. Radhakrishnan by members belonging to either front. While Congress member Jyothikumar Chamakkala accused him of disrespecting department heads, faculty and other employees, CPI (M) nominees K. Shaji, K.H. Babujan and A A Rahim raised allegations of inappropriate remarks being made against two Syndicate members, who belonged to the Scheduled Castes, sources said.

With the Vice Chancellor turning down demands of apologies, the meeting witnessed pandemonium, following which it was adjourned. After the meeting reconvened after over two hours, normal proceedings were taken forward after the Vice Chancellor said he understood the sentiments of those who raised the allegations.
