NEW DELHI: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has notified the Congress high command that he will not be able to take up the position of KPCC president. He said this in a meeting with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi here.

“I don’t see any circumstances under which I need to change this decision,” he said.

Later while talking to the media he said that he has made clear to the party high command that he’s not interested in any of the party positions. “I think there wouldn’t be any pressure from the high command since I’ve already let them know about my disinterest,” he said.

Meanwhile, he has pointed it out to the high command that a new president needs to be in place as soon as possible.

“Whether there needs to be an organisational election depends on the opinion of the party leaders,” he said.

Earlier M M Hassan and K Muralidharan MLA had demanded that Oommen Chandy should be made the next KPCC president.
