THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue minister E Chandrasekharan has made it clear that the government will go ahead with clearing out all encroachment on government land in Munnar.

He clarified that what happened the other day was just usual procedure and there was no need to discuss this with the chief minister. He added that he doesn’t wish to respond to the chief minister’s comments on the issue.

Meanwhile there are mixed responses from the Christian dioceses across the state about pulling down the huge holy cross at Pappathichola. Vicar of Alappuzha diocese Pius Arattukulam came in support of the move by saying that the police and the government can take down the construction of any religious organisation if it is against law.

Also, when the Jacobite and Syro Malabar churches came in support of the move by the revenue department, the Catholic Bishop’s Council strongly criticised it.

Even Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself criticised the action saying that the Idukki district administration was careless in their action and that ‘demolition’ is not a policy of the government.
