NEW DELHI: BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan criticised chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan by asking where was the latter’s religious sentiments when Sree Narayana Guru was crucified.

He said that encroachment must be treated as encroachment and there is no need to mix it with any religion.

He was reacting to the statement made by Pinarayi Vijayan against the taking down of the holy cross at Pappathimala the other day.

“He had no qualms of hurting religious feelings when he called the ‘holy hair’ as ‘body waste’, or when Sree narayana Guru was crucified,” he said, and added: “It is troubling to see the chief minister’s stand that seems to be in favour of the encroachers in Munnar.”

He observed that even most of the Christian churches came in support of the move by the revenue department, and said that the chief minister must make clear his relationship with the ‘Jesus in Spirit’ group.

He further clarified that the BJP looks at encroachment as encroachment and not mix any religion in it. He also said that he’d hold talks with union environment minister Anil Madhav Dave regarding the encroachments in Munnar.
