       Boy drowns in Karamana river

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 14-year-old-boy drowned in Karamana river after he got trapped in a deep pit formed in the river bed due to sand mining near Vellanad. The victim was identified as Adithyan, son of Udaya Kumar and Sajitha, residents of Companymukku, Vellanad.

The incident occurred when Adithyan went to take a bath in the river along with his cousins Akhil and Sanal at Eliyavoorkadavu near Uzhamalakkal. Adithyan, who did not know swimming, got trapped in the pit and could not escape. His body was recovered by the fire force and locals after an hour-long search. Though he was rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead. The body was handed over to the relatives after an autopsy. He was a class nine student at the Government HSS Vellanad. He had two brothers Amal and Akshay.
