KOCHI: The bodies of an 18-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man who had gone missing since Friday were found under the Calvathy Bridge in Fort Kochi on Sunday morning. They have been identified as Layana, daughter of Pushpan of Irumpanam; and Sandeep, son of Jayadevan of Mills Lane, Pallimukku. The police found the bodies with the hands tied together with a shawl.

The bodies, found in a partially decomposed state, were believed to have remained in water for nearly 48 hours. A preliminary probe showed the duo committed suicide after their parents had opposed their relationship.

The police said the duo had been missing since Friday morning, following which their parents lodged complaints before the Ernakulam South and Hill Palace police stations. By tracing the mobile tower location, the police found that the girl had not left Kochi.

Meanwhile, the police were also investigating the chances of murder in the case. The bodies were handed over to relatives after post-mortem. “The circumstances reveal that it’s a clear case of suicide,” said a top police officer.
