KANNUR: Two CPI (M) workers arrested in connection with the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker Choorakkad Biju near Ramanthali at Payyannur on May 12 were remanded in judicial custody.

The arrested, N P Raneesh and K V Jyothish, both natives of Ramanthali village, were sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Payyannur on Tuesday.

The police said that Raneesh was directly involved in the murder while Jyothish was an informant. Police officers conducting the investigation said that the police would approach the court to secure their custody for further interrogation to gather information on other accused who were still at large. The police have already spread the net to nab the others involved in the murder.

Biju had been hacked to death by a gang which travelled in an Innova car following the victim pillion riding on a motorcycle. The motorcycle had been knocked down before the assailants hacked him to death near the Palakkot Bridge on the way to his house.
