THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that a committee will be formed to study the problems faced by women working in the film industry, and actions will be taken to solve those problems identified by this committee.

The CM was interacting with the representatives of the newly formed ‘Women Collective in Cinema’ who went to meet him on Thursday. Beena Paul, Manju Warrier, Rima Kallingal, Parvathy, Vidhu Vincent, Sajitha Madathil, Deedi Damodaran, Ramya Nambeesan, Anjali Menon and Sayonara Philip were among the members of ‘Women Collective in Cinema’ who had a discussion with the CM.

The representatives of the group told the CM that even basic human rights are denied to women working in film industry and the incident of a leading actress getting molested in Kochi is proof enough for that. Their recommendations included formation of a cell to address sexual harassments in shooting sets.

They also said that the participation of women in the technical aspects of cinema would improve only if their basic security is assured. They also recommended that the government must provide subsidy to films that include at least 30 per cent of women participation in the technical departments. They also complained that some of the shooting sets doesn’t even have the basic amenities for women.

The CM said the representatives of the group expressed their satisfaction at the speedy interventions by the police regarding the case of the actress getting molested in Kochi. He also made clear that police assistance will be provided to do a thorough background check of the male technicians and drivers who work for them.
