THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state general secretary K Surendran took to Facebook to say that the way the inauguration of Kochi Metro was scheduled at a time when the Prime Minister is not around shows the pettiness of the State government.

It has to be noted that the PMO had intimated about PM Modi’s foreign trip on April 19 itself.

He wrote: “It was with the prior knowledge that the Prime Minister will be abroad from May 20 to June 3, that the date for Kochi Metro inauguration was planned by the State government. This is just to insult the PM.”

Terming it as a “cheap gimmick” he added that such things will not only favour Kerala in anyways but bring further damage.

Meanwhile another BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh said that the State government not inviting the PM for the inauguration is a sign of their protest. He added that the State government should have planned the inauguration accordingly or should have waited for the PM’s return after this foreign trip.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan alleged that fixing the inauguration date as MAY 30 shows just the arrogance of the State government.

All this is dragging the inauguration of the Kochi Metro into a tussle between the State and the Central governments.

Earlier the day, Minister Kadakampally Surendran had announced that the Kochi Metro will be inaugurated on May 30. He had said that the PM is expected to attend the event but they will not wait for a confirmation from the PM.

Nevertheless, it can be safely assumed that PM Modi, who has scheduled a European tour from May 29 till June 3, will not be attending the event.
