THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Arguments are rife over the date of the inauguration of the Kochi Metro. Earlier minister Kadakampally Surendran had said that they wish the Prime Minister would arrive to carry out the inauguration at Aluva on May 30, and added that they are waiting for a response from the PMO.

He said that the government has no problem in postponing the date of inauguration by one or two days but will not be able to wait indefinitely. He added that if the PM doesn’t arrive, then they would go ahead with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan performing the inauguration as part of LDF’s anniversary celebrations.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan has told the media that choosing a date inconvenient for the PM was in bad taste. “The date was fixed to the convenience of the State government. This is to deliberately exclude the PM from the function. There is political conspiracy behind this,” he said.

He further added that the inauguration date was not even intimated to the Central Urban Development Ministry.

With all these new developments, the inauguration of the Kochi Metro is entering into a new phase of arguments and allegations.
