KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that those who tried to whip up controversy ahead of the inauguration of Kochi Metro Railway were a desperate lot at the time of the inauguration.

He was speaking on Saturday during the inauguration of Kochi Metro at Kalur international stadium.

“We won’t be able to forget E Sreedharan who helped us make Kochi Metro a reality. Kochi Metro is a project completed within record time in the history of metro projects. We are expressing our gratitude to him as well as all labourers including those from other states who worked hard for the completion of the project.

The chief minister said Kochi metro had become a role model for implementation of large scale projects. It is the fastest Metro project in India. It is also an example for the fact that big scale projects can be used for society’s progress.

The chief minister also expressed thanks to Kochi locals who cooperated with the government for the completion of the project.
