Kochi: Kochi Dy. Police Commissioner Yathish Chandra has made it clear to the Human Rights Commission that he has not dragged and beaten up the people who protested against the LPG plant in Puthuvype.

He said that the protesters were trying to bring the Puthuvype protest to the notice of the nation by their demonstration at the high court junction.

“The protesters’ intention was to block the rehearsal of Prime Minister Modi’s convoy and thereby tarnish the image of the state government. The protesters also planned to stage a march into the premise of high court, which gave orders to give protection to the plant,” he said.

He said that both the national and state intelligence had given information to the police that there is a life threat on PM Modi, and it was based on this information that we removed the protesters from the high court junction.

He added that the protesters were removed by force recommended by law, and no one was beaten up or dragged. Had the rehearsal of the PM’s convoy was blocked by these protesters, his visit to Kerala to inaugurate the Kochi Metro would have been cancelled.

He said that the protesters were trying to belittle the police, and they aimed at gaining cheap publicity through it.
