THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Supply of drinking water to large parts of the city will be disrupted from 10 am on August 4. This is to facilitate maintenance work at the electrical substation of the 86-mld (millions of litres per day) and 74-mld treatment plants at Aruvikkara.  The areas to be affected include Kowdiar, Peroorkada, Paippinmoodu, Sasthamangalam, Vazhuthacaud, Thycaud, Valiasala, Pattom, Medical College, Kumarapuram, Ulloor, Prasanth Nagar, Akkulam, Cheruvakkal, Pongummoodu, Sreekaryam, Chempazhanthi, Kariyam, Parottukonam, Nalanchira, Mannanthala, Kesavadasapuram, Paruthippara, Muttada, Ambalamukku, Vazhayila, Kudappanakkunnu, Powdikonam, Kazhakuttam, Karyavattom, Technopark, Manvila, Kulathoor, Thirumala, PTP Nagar, Maruthankuzhi, Kanjirampara, Vattiyurkavu, Kachani, Nettayam, Malamukal, Kulasekharam, Valiavila, Kodunganoor, Kundaman Bhagam, Punnakkamugal, Mudavanmugal, Jagathy, Poojappura, Karamana, Nemom, Pappanamcode, Thrikkannapuram, Kaimanam, Karumam, Kalady, Nedumgad, Attukal, Thiruvallam, and Nelliode. The maintenance work on the 11-KV substation involves replacement of critical parts of the transformer. When the substation was functioning, there was a short circuit in the transformer. “If we do not address this small problem now, we may face a serious disruption in water supply,” KWA executive engineer John Koshy said.
