COIMBATORE: A youth met with tragic death after the car in which he was travelling with his family caught fire. The car was on its way from Bengaluru to Kochi and the mishap occurred in Coimbatore.
The youth died after he sustained burns while trying to rescue his wife and two children from the burning car.
The police said he could not escape as he could not unlock his seat belt. The incident happened on Sunday morning near the toll gate at Madhurakkara.
The dead has been identified as Bengaluru-based ornament merchant Dileep Kumar. As soon as the car caught fire, he pushed his wife and children out of the car. Before he could unlock the seat belt, the fire enveloped him. He could not jump out of the car, as well.
The initial inference is that the car caught fire due to engine fault. Police said that his wife and kids were safe and more investigation would be conducted into the incident.
