       Police raid illegal quarry at Kannur

KANNUR: Police recovered a large haul of explosives from an illegal quarry at Sreekandapuram near here, following a raid. Thaliparamba DySP KV Venugopal led team recovered 405 detonators, 380 gelatin sticks, 732 meters of fuse wire, 19 detonators which were installed for mining, and vehicles including two JCB (earth mover), three tractors from an illegal quarry named 'Kannur crushers' functioning at Cheparambu near Sreekandapuram. The quarry manager Saji John (48) of Nediyanga and worker Binoy Devassya (40) of Naduvil were arrested in this connection. Police have conducted raids after reaching the quarry premises on civil dress and found the explosive materials kept in plastic barrels and bags concealed under mud. Police have also registered a case against quarry owners Jabidh and Nazar of Mayyil, both are absconding. The raids would be continued in other quarries in coming days, police said.
