KANNUR: Chief Minister Pinarayi VIjayan announced that the cash prize for the J C Daniel award has been increased to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh and will be implemented from next year. He made the announcement while giving away the 47th State Film Awards, 2016 to the awardees at a function in Thalassery Municipal stadium.

Vijayan also presented this year's JC Daniel award to Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan while consider his comprehensive contributions to film sector. He also said the fascist forces are trying to grab the cultural sector, so the people should encourage the cinema's depicting as defense for the protection of cultural sector. Mr VIjayan also said the state film awards are given to encourage the film sector. So the artists, even they are invited or not invited by the organizers, should attend the function as a motivation to cinema field. He criticise the cine artists following their absence. Meanwhile, chief guest Madhu, Sheela and Manju Warriers also abstained from the function.A signature campaign named "Avalkoppam" is also began today by the Women collective in cinema (WCC), a group of Mollywood female artists before the State film award distribution at the same venue. Veteran Artiste Nilambur Ayisha inaugurated the campaign. Adoor Gopalakrishnan in his acceptance speech said, "He thinks that there is no delay for honor him the J C Daniel award. It is received at good time, when the government has been doing good works for the protection of arts and culture. So I am oblige to the award". Cultural Affairs Minister A K Balan presided and ministers K K Shailaja, Kadanappally Ramachandaran, E Chandrasekharan and other people representatives, Kerala State film development Corporation (KSFDC) chairman Kamal also attended. After the awards ceremony, followed by dance, music and mimics programme.
