KASARAGOD: Three persons, including a woman and her nine-year-old daughter, died in two drowning accidents in the district.

Mariyumma, 42, wife of Abdulla, a resident of Kambar locality, near here, slipped into the Mogral river along with her daughter, Mufeeda, 9.

It was not immediately known how the accident occurred, the Kumbla police said. While the body of Mariyumma was recovered earlier, the girl’s body was recovered on Sunday, they said, adding that a case under provisions of Cr.PC 174 (unnatural death) was registered following a complaint lodged by the family members.

In another incident, 17-year-old Jamsheer, a student of Thrikkarippur Polytechnic, drowned in the nearby Valiyaparamba backwaters while taking bath along with four of his friends. The friends tried to rescue him but the teenager could not be saved. His body, caught in a whirlpool, was later recovered by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
