THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K Muraleedharan MLA has clarified that he has not said that Ramesh Chennithala must be replaced with Oommen Chandy as the opposition leader, but suggested that the latter is also eligible to be in that position.

He said those who contorted what he said might have other intentions. Every Congress member has the feeling that the opposition must be made stronger, and I stand firm with what I said about Oommen Chandy, added Muraleedharan.

He had said on Monday that Oommen Chandy is eligible to take up any position, and that many of the party members desire that Oommen Chandy must become chief of Congress.

He had also said that the protests by the opposition has not enough strength, and that the opinion from many of the party’s centres is that this must be made more effective and stronger.
