KOCHI: Kerala high court has taken exception to Vizhinjam port project, asking the government "what did it benefit out of the project?".
The court made the above observation on the basis of a petition filed by Kollam native MK Salim, alleging corruption in the awarding of the contract.
The government had signed the contract for the port project unilaterally and the court asked the government to explain on it within September 25. If CAG's report is  studied, it will become clear that the project is a loss for the State. As per the contract, Kerala will not get any profit during the first 40 years.
In the petition, it is said that the contract made with Adani group during the tenure of former UDF government would bring heavy loss to the State and it should be probed by the CBI or some other agency.
The petition had also made an appeal to the court to oversee the probe so that it got completed in a time bound manner.
