KOLLAM: Reacting to the government decision to order a criminal and Vigilance probe into the solar scam on the basis of the G Sivarajan Commission report, Congress leader Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has said that the order coming on the day of the Vengara bypoll by itself is politically motivated.

“That is the reason why the probe order was made in haste without even publishing the commission report. It also smacks of revenge to avenge the strong stand taken by the Congress against the CPI (M) in the T P Chandrasekharan murder and the SNC Lavalin cases,” he said. But the Congress would not be browbeaten by such hollow threats, Suresh said in a statement here on Wednesday.

The commission was appointed by the previous UDF government and even  Chandy appeared before the commission when summoned and testified for a couple of hours. He said that if the Congress had any fear about corruption or other allegations in connection with the case, the UDF government would not have ordered a judicial probe.

But the conscience of the Congress was clear and yet the judicial probe was ordered. The then government had also provided all the records that the commission had called for.

“This is nothing but a bogus case.” Now since the probe had been ordered, the Congress would challenge it politically and legally. He requested the KPCC president to summon the political affairs committee of the Congress for taking decisions on the necessary follow up actions.
